Articles Hello! Welcome to the articles section of this site. Please note that as this website was only recently redesigned, the articles will take a while to be posted. I've had interest from a publisher about a book idea of mine, so I'm going to be very busy doing that for the next few months. This is great news for me, but unfortunately means that the website articles will be going up rather slowly. Apologies in advance - I'll do my best to keep on top of things. Please Note... The way I write can be summed up by this quote by Bill Stout (from p. 105 of “The Enterprising Writer” by Michael Meanwell): “In your writing, be strong, defiant, forbearing. Have a point to make and write to it. Dare to say what you want most to say, and say it as plainly as you can. Whether or not you write well, write bravely.” And that’s what I’ve tried to do, so you’ll find I tend to write with absolutely NO sugar-coating whatsoever. I tell it how I see it - the good, the bad, the ugly, and the revolting. However, as truth is subjective, keep in mind that these articles are not The Truth but simply my truth, stemming from my experiences and observations. And whether you like what I say or not, whether you agree or not, gaining inside information and being able to learn from another’s experience is invaluable. Read on and enjoy! General Coming up in this section: some thoughts about learning, teaching and classes in general. General Articles:
Bellydance In this section, I provide thoughts, tips, opinions, and advice about all things Bellydance. The most unfortunate aspect of Bellydance is that among the top performers and teachers you'll often (not always, but often) see huge amounts of insecurity, diva complexes and massive egos. Clearly, this causes many problems in the industry, so while the unsuspecting novice goes into Bellydance to simply learn to dance, she doesn't realise the kind of world she's entering. Don't be surprised by some of the things you read - although there are many excellent things about Bellydance and lots of lovely people in the industry, there are some very toxic individuals spreading their poison throughout a world that should be 100% fun. And so the purpose of these writings is to provide knowledge - the kind of knowledge I wish I'd had access to before I was in a situation where actually needed it. Knowledge is power, and hopefully you'll gain both from these articles. Bellydance Articles: Yoga Many Yogis and Yoginis have graced us with writings of their knowledge of Yoga and so below I have recommend books that I believe will be valuable to practitioners of Yoga. I enjoyed them and found them informative and helpful so hopefully you will too. Coming up in this section: my own thoughts, tips, opinions, observations, comments, and advice about various things that I've discovered or feel strongly about, which hopefully you'll find interesting food for thought. In the words of Mahatma Gandhi: "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated." SAY NO TO ANIMALS IN PET SHOPS! At Say No it's estimated that 130,000 dogs and 60,000 cats are killed every year because there are not enough homes for them all. You can be part of the solution by NOT breeding your pet – any vet will tell you that desexing your pet is part of responsible pet ownership. On top of that, too many are bred simply for profit and many petshops are contributing to this enormous problem by encouraging irresponsible breeding and impulse purchasing of puppies (for more info, visit www.saynotoanimalsinpetshops.com:80/). For these reasons, shelters are a far better place to buy a pet:
Or, look on www.petrescue.com.au/shelter_directory/nsw for an extensive list of NSW rescue organisations, or Google "animal shelters" to find one in your state and country. AND REMEMBER: THERE ARE NO BAD PETS, JUST BAD OWNERS! Copyright © Dreaming of Jeannie. |
