BIG NEWS!!!

My manuscript Little Dog In A Big City has recently acquired an agent to represent it: Sally Bird of Calidris Literary Agency (http://site.calidrislitagency.com). Woo-hoo!!

BELLYDANCE NEWSFLASH!

It's been a long while since I've run my own classes, but I'm back in 2010 to teach Saturday mornings in Brighton-le-Sands. Come along and try it - for more details click here: Classes or view the flier by clicking here: PDF.

ANIMALS AND US IS HOT OFF THE PRESS!

Animals And Us, the book I had the pleasure of proofreading, is out! It's by Faye Leister, and is an activity book that teaches the values of respect, empathy, integrity, responsibility, care and compassion for animals. To get a taste of what the book is like, click here: PDF, or go the book's official site for free downloads: www.animalsandus.com.au/activitypages.html. You can also buy the book directly from Faye's site which you can get to by either clicking on the above picture of the cover or via the following link: www.animalsandus.com.au.

Welcome!

Phew! Now that we're done with all the latest newsflashes, let me say: hi folks and welcome to my new website! Since 1998 my internet presence has been as a Bellydance teacher with the website "dreamingofjeannie.com.au." During that time some of you may have seen me in the press – click on the following to check it out: Articles - and on TV in the following:

  • 'Dare' commercial
  • Melinda Schneider’s music video ‘TV or Me’
  • 'Space', Optus television
  • 'Body + Soul', Channel 9
  • 'Beyond Online' e-magazine
  • 'Kerri-Anne Show'
  • ‘Fresh’, Channel 9

I'm still here in Sydney (Australia), but since 1998 my talents have changed as I schooled myself in other styles of dance, added Pilates and Yoga to my repertoire, and also had some writing published. All throughout, I've supported (and continue to support) animal rights/animal welfare work. But rather than making different websites for all the hats I wear, I decided to amalgamate them into one monster website which is what you're looking at now. Enjoy!

PS. For the Bellydance articles that were on the dreamingofjeannie site, click here: Bellydance and scroll down to the Belly Blog links.

Me in Bellydance attire at Coogee beach.

...and again, but this time at Bondi Beach

Going nose to nose with the late Jordan.

Being a triangle (that is, doing the well-known Yoga pose called Triangle Pose or Trikonasana)...

...and doing a plank (both pics taken at Coogee Beach).

I often write whilst horizontal. (There's Jake in the background.)

In the words of Mahatma Gandhi: "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated."

SAY NO TO BACKYARD BREEDERS! SAY NO TO PUPPY MILLS! SAY NO TO ANIMALS IN PETSHOPS!

At Say No (www.saynotoanimalsinpetshops.com) it's estimated that 130,000 dogs and 60,000 cats are killed every year in Australia because there are not enough homes for them all.

Backyard breeders (pet owners who breed their pet) are a large part of this problem. All animal welfare organisations agree that desexing is part of responsible pet ownership, so be part of the solution and desex your pet!

Puppy mills contribute to the enormous problem of overpopulation by irresponsibly breeding for profit without any care for the animals whatsoever. The dogs live in appallingly dirty, cramped conditions all their lives, and when they no longer serve their purpose they're killed, dumped or sold for cruel medical testing.

And how do petshops fit in? Well, puppy mills and backyard breeders are where petshops get their animals from! No responsible breeder would EVER give their animals over to a petshop. Besides supporting irresponsible breeders (backyard breeders and puppy mills), having animals in shop windows encourages impulse purchases. Getting a pet should be a conscious, careful decision - NOT one to be made while shoe shopping.

For all these reasons, a shelter is a far better place to buy a petGoogle "animal shelters" to find one in your state and country, and visit Death Row Pets (www.deathrowpets.net) to see what else you can do to help.

AND REMEMBER: THERE ARE NO BAD PETS, JUST BAD OWNERS!
